Don Seymour has been working as an advisor to hospital boards, CEOs and medical staff leaders for over twenty-five years. In addition to strategic planning, he has experience with a broad base of board and medical staff issues. He has worked with hospitals and healthcare systems throughout the United States. Representative engagements include:
  • Development of a regional medical school and residency programs for a big ten university, medical school and community hospital.
  • Redesign of the medical staff relationship model for a large teaching hospital in the southeast.
  • Development of a bottoms-up, physician led, clinical plan for a New York multi-Hospital system.
  • Board design and development for a New England community hospital.
  • Board assessment for a major oncologic Hospital & research organization (utilizing The Governance Institute’s best practice assessment tool).

  • Facilitation of the merger between a critical access and a community hospital (mid-west).

  • Strategic analyses of building a replacement hospital for a southwestern community hospital.
  • Service line strategy formulation for a large, mid-West hospital system.
Don is a frequent presenter on a variety of subjects related to senior leadership in healthcare organizations. In addition to being on the faculty of The Governance Institute he has made presentations to the American Hospital Association (AHA), Fortune 100 Companies, and a variety of other national, state and regional groups. He has served as faculty for the American College of Healthcare Executives seminars on eHealth Strategy, Service Line Planning, and Strategic Repositioning: Managing the Transition to Being a Great Hospital. His articles have been published in a number of journals including BoardRoom Press, E-Briefings, Hospitals & Health Networks, Trustee and Spectrum. He has served as Executive Editor for Futurescan™ (AHA’s annual healthcare trends publication) since 2004.

Don is a past president of the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development of the American Hospital Association, the New England Society for Healthcare Planning & Marketing and the Metropolitan Boston Society for Healthcare Planning & Marketing. He is also a past chair of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants. In 2008 he was the recipient of the SHSMD Award for Individual Professional Excellence.

He received his M.B.A. from the Johnson School at Cornell University and his Bachelors Degree from George Mason University.
