Don Seymour has been working as an advisor to hospital boards, CEOs and medical staff leaders since 1979. In addition to strategic planning, he has experience with a broad base of board and medical staff issues. He has worked with hospitals and healthcare systems throughout the United States. Representative engagements include:
- Redesign of the medical staff relationship model for a large teaching hospital in the southeast.
- Board design and development for a New England community hospital.
- Strategy formulation for a Tennessee community hospital.
- Facilitation of a merger among three Massachusetts hospitals.
- Analysis of statewide strategic partnership opportunities for a mid-Atlantic, university affiliated medical center.
- Development of collaborative physician/hospital ventures for a South Carolina community hospital.
- Corporate strategy formulation for a multi-hospital system in Pennsylvania.
- Service line strategy formulation for a large, mid-West hospital.
Don is a frequent presenter on a variety of subjects related to senior leadership in healthcare organizations. In addition to being on the faculty of The Governance Institute he has made presentations to the American Hospital Association (AHA), Fortune 100 Companies, and a variety of other national, state and regional groups. He has served as faculty for the American College of Healthcare Executives seminars on eHealth Strategy, Service Line Planning, and Strategic Repositioning: Managing the Transition to Being a Great Hospital. His articles have been published in a number of journals including BoardRoom Press, Hospitals & Health Networks and Trustee. He has served as Executive Editor for Futurescan™ (AHA's annual healthcare trends publication) since 2004.
Don is a past president of the Society for Healthcare Strategy & Market Development of the American Hospital Association, the New England Society for Healthcare Planning & Marketing and the Metropolitan Boston Society for Healthcare Planning & Marketing. He is also a past chair of the American Association of Healthcare Consultants.
He received his M.B.A. from the Johnson School at Cornell University and his Bachelors Degree from George Mason University.
